The Unbun Bread Review

What would you give for a hot, buttered bun with your next meal? Most ketonians forego bread (or anything that resembles bread) to adopt the keto lifestyle. The Unbun, on the other hand, allows you to experience the flavor and feel of bread without the customary high carb count.

The Unbun, shaped like a burger bun, tastes, smells, and has a bread-like feel, albeit a bit lighter and springier. The flavor is multigrain and more like wheat bread than white bread. Use it for a burger or sandwich, or heat it in the microwave and spread it with butter for a heaven-sent moment!

Unbuns are significant and satisfying, come in a pack of four, and are keto, paleo, grain-free, and gluten-free. There is also a vegan version available. They’re making their way to grocers across the country. Still, they’re always available on the Unbun Foods website, where you’ll also find Unbun Baguettes (which come two to a pack, are the size of a large sub roll, and have the same texture and flavor as their bun-shaped keto bread) and Unbun pizza crust.

The Unbuns unlock a whole new universe of delectable concoctions only limited by your creativity.

About the Company

Gus Klemos established Unbun Foods in late 2017 from his one-bedroom Toronto flat. Gus decided to provide a better choice for the special-diet folks after growing tired of the depressing (and often nonexistent) selections. His Unbun fit the gluten-free diet and numerous others, including the ketogenic diet, from the start.

In its first two years, the firm expanded rapidly to offer over 1,500 locations, including Loblaws, Metro, Whole Foods, The Burger’s Priest, and Erewhon. Naturally, it also relocated to a larger functioning facility.

Unbun Foods’ purpose is simple: to allow individuals who follow low-carb, paleo gluten-free, grain-free, and plant-based diets to enjoy their favorite restaurants, chains, fast food, and meals at home without sacrificing flavor or eating experience.

Their whole product line is keto, paleo, grain-free, and gluten-free.

How They Taste

Unbun rolls are just the closest approximation we’ve found to actual wheat flour-based bread. In a word, they’re delectable. The texture is a touch spongier than regular bread, and you can’t squeeze it to make it thinner since it bounces back. However, the bread’s flavor and integrity set it to differ from other keto-bread manufacturers. These rolls have a distinctly sweet aroma, although it is scarcely detectable in their flavor.

There is no off-flavor or aftertaste to indicate that you are eating a substitute. We dare you to serve them at your next family meal and watch how your guests respond. We recommend having extra on hand to accommodate requests for more than one roll, even though each registration is generous in size and more than filling. One serving is more than plenty.

How the Unbun Affected Blood Sugar and Ketones

We test our blood glucose and ketones before (fasting for 2-3 hours) and after eating a product to observe how it changes our test results. The Unbun passed the examination. Indeed, in our experience, our ketones increased! The findings are shown in the graph below:

Glucose Reading (mg/dL)Ketone Reading (mmol/dL)
Before881.4
20 Minutes After Eating951.4
